Island Functional Medicine is a naturopathic integrative clinic. We use the principals of naturopathic medicine to treat the whole person.
As your primary care doctor, we help coordinate your health care. We're your first point of contact for most health care needs. We provide annual preventative visits, manage acute and chronic conditions, make referrals to specialists, and order labs and imaging. All of this is done through a naturopathic lens of prevention and whole person health.
If you already have a primary care doctor that you like, we can still work with you as a specialist. This means we will work with your health care team while providing naturopathic treatment recommendations. In addition to treating diagnosed conditions, we can also aid in the workup of complex cases, which may include utilizing specialty functional labs.
IV (intravenous) therapy is a powerful treatment that allows 100% of the nutrients and minerals to be absorbed immediately and effectively.

Acupuncture is a healing modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been practiced for over 3000 years. Acupuncture has been shown by numerous studies that placing fine sterile needles into the acupoints of the skin helps to restore balance in the body and to aid in improving the function of the nervous system, endocrine system, immune system, cardiovascular system, digestive system and of course the musculoskeletal system.
At Island Functional Medicine, in addition to acupuncture we also offer electroacupuncture. This is a type of acupuncture that utilizes electric current similar to a TENS unit. Electroacupuncture adds additional stimulation to acupuncture points, trigger points and motor points to accelerate healing and restore function.
Dr. Tanizaki is trained in both traditional acupuncture and sports acupuncture. He completed the Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program with Whitfield Reaves. This training integrates traditional acupuncture with anatomy, western orthopedics, and sports medicine therapeutics.

Cupping is a healing modality that’s been used for thousands of years by the ancient Chinese and Egyptians. Using round cups, suction is created and placed on the skin. This encourages blood flow and circulation to the area, promoting healing and pain reduction.
Cupping is used by many professional athletes today for acute musculoskeletal pain and injury. It can be used post workout to increase circulation and speed up recovery time. Cupping is great for chronic musculoskeletal issues such as back, neck and shoulder pain. It is a great compliment to acupuncture.
